Common questions
Do I need a CDL to be a truck dispatcher?
No. Dispatchers work by phone and computer. Knowing how trucking works helps a lot, but you don't need a CDL.
Can I dispatch from home?
Yes. Many dispatchers work remotely with a computer, a phone and a load board subscription.
Do dispatchers need broker authority?
A dispatcher who works for carriers under an agreement and is paid by the carrier generally acts as the carrier's agent. Arranging freight for shippers for pay generally requires broker authority. Check the FMCSA's guidance for your situation.
